Wisconsin Senator visits UW SMPH programs advancing cancer cure innovations

On October 3, 2023, Wisconsin Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara, who Chairs the WI State Legislator Committee on Health, visited UW Health as part of a fact-finding mission on advances in translational cancer research at UW Carbone Cancer Center. As part of site visit coordinated by Connie Schulze, she heard about cancer research programs led by Paul Sondel, Mark Burkard and from Kevin Walters speaking to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) engagement. She was presented by Jacques Galipeau with the vision of UW Program for Advanced Cell Therapy in becoming the national leader in healthcare integrated personalized cell therapies for improving clinical outcomes in children and adults in Wisconsin and beyond. A tour of state-of-the-art UW Health GMP cell manufacturing facilities led by Ross Meyers anchored the visit.  The dual use of UW Program for Advanced Cell Therapy mission to advance #FDA-sponsored University of Wisconsin-Madison innovations in cell therapies and leveraging a burgeoning Wisconsin biopharma ecosystem were highlighted as a growing value proposition for Wisconsin knowledge economy.
